UFC 83 Fights Analysis: When its live results come out, UFC 83 falls down

UFC 83 Fights Analysis: When its live results come out, UFC 83 falls down

I’m so ready to see St. Pierre to destroy Serra and shut him up. I think he is just kidding himself thinking he could repeat what he did a year. I can’t wait to see that welterweight belt around St. Pierre’s waist. It’s going to be so sweet. Go GSP take care of business.

When St. Pierre lost the first time, I was so bumped and was like “F***, how long will it be before he get a rematch”. I can’t believe the time has already come and this time GSP better not dissapoint me.

i think GSP.  Lutter, Quarry, McCarthy(i hate bisping…) danzig, DOERKSEN, belcher, herman, stout..  don’t really know the last fights.  although i could be wrong aobut the Doerksen, McDonald.  McD is a hit or miss, he has impressed me in a fight or too but we will see tonight if hes gonna stick around the UFC longer?
not the best card but still very excited i like Goulet, Velasquez, Clementi, Herman, Belcher, MacDonald, Mac Danzig via complete but whoppin 1st, Bisping via total domination 1st, Quarry via Decision, Lutter vis sub 3rd round, GSP via TKO early 2nd round,

They said the first fight starts between 7:30 and 8.  I’m curious to see how they are going to get 6 fights complete in just 2 hours before the televised card comes on the air.  Must be counting on a lot of quick KOs or subs

I have to say I want Velasquez to lose, and for only one reason, his tattoo.

Across his chest is “Brown power”;  I wonder what would happen if some jerk wanted to tattoo “white power” on his chest and be a UFC fighter?

Perhaps he did this when he was younger and stupider, but it still makes me wonder…

I wonder if Serra is backstage watching “Rocky 4″ imagining GSP as “Drago” the Russian smashing machine of the USSR…lol.  Actually, I am thinking that considering his disposition, Serra is bouncing off the walls at this moment;)
I’m in a tough spot tonite.  I don’t like GSP or Serra.  I know that probly pisses everyone on this board tonite off but I’m just hoping for a good, long title fight.  There hasn’t been one in a while although I doubt this fight makes it out of the 2nd tonite
The finalists of TUF, Herman and Grove have really bombed as up and comers. Grove has no chin (watch his KOTK fight and Cote Fights, same punch same result) and Herman, guys tough and can do some stuff alright…

But once again, choked out.
This isn’t a sport of ‘what ifs’ or ’should’ve done this and that’

JUNKIE- Love your play by plays. don’t ever change.
Matt Serra is going to kick some butt tonight. JSP doesn’t stand a chance. I can’t believe that there are folks out there that believe Matt had a lucky punch! Rewatch the fight 21 punches in a row!!!! Sorry Guys, I am an American and we need to put Frenchie (or whatever his nickname he chose) in his place. Matt Serra is a soldier of the UFC, an American and a fighter! My prayers are witth Matt and that JSP gets his but kicked tonight.
Alrite, here we go with the picks.  I was terrible at Fight Night and pretty bad at UFC 82 so I have to try to redeem myself tonite:

Danzig beats Bocek via 2nd Rd TKO (ground and pound)
Bisping beats McCarthy via 2nd Rd KO (strikes)
Starnes beats Quarry via 2nd Rd TKO (ground and pound)
Frankling beats Lutter via 1st Rd KO (strikes)
St. Pierre beats Serra via 2nd Rd submission (rear naked choke)

I’m guessing a lot of early stoppages and I predict UFC will show the Valesquez, Day, and McDonald prelim fights- gets the new heavyweight and more Canadian fighters on the show
Touche, point taken.  But that’s just more proof that Lutter has no shot.  Leben has to be considered above him too right now, as does Nate Marquardt after his win over Jeremy Horn.  And I don’t know about you, but I would much rather watch Silva fight Dan Henderson or even Franklin again before Lutter.

He’s been out so long after losing that he’s fallen way down the ladder and if he doesn’t get it done here tonite he will fall out of the picture all together

These fights sound more exciting than I thought they would be.  That could be due to the fact that I’m only reading the play-by-play and my imagination is doing the rest.  I wanna know what the f*&k was up with Macdonald throwing in a couple cheap shots on another Canadian in front of Canadians.  Not only was that bad for the sport but a bad representation of Canadians.  Dana better deal with that like he did with Babalu’s choke.  I was hoping Stout would get the win but I knew Clementi was a bad match up for him.  Demian Maia sounds like the sandman on the ground.  Once he takes you down your done.  He should do great things in the UFC but that sucks for Herman who seemed to be hitting his stride.  I was hoping Mac would get his ass kicked but from the results I read, I can’t hate on him anymore.  He just went through a war and ended the fight with a choke.  That shows he’s a great fighter all around.  I hope the rest of the card holds up to the preliminary fights.  Go Franklin & Serra…das right I said Serra.

Props to GSP for regaining what was rightfully his

OBSERVATIONS

   1. Despite what the idiots have said in the comments, this was an excellent card.
   2. Mac Danzig-Mark Bocek is my current nominee for fight of the year. Back and forth. Both fighters had opportunities to win…excellent opening fight.
   3. I am now a Bisping fan after viewing his fight against McCarthy. Excellent submission defence and his Vale Tudo is excellent. Dominanty performance and could definitely stand and bang with Silva.
   4. I pray to god that Starnes was injured or sick or something because that was terrible. I think Nate Quarry sucks but Starnes should be fired from the UFC after that s***
   5. Franklin is as good as ever
   6. GSP v. Silva at 180 lbs.-No Belts-NEEDS TO HAPPEN-GSP f’N dominated Serra (as he should have) and is IMHO the best in the world.
7. PROPS TO THE MONTREAL FANS. NEVER HAVE I SEN A CROWD THAT KNEW AS MUCH ABOUT MMA IN HISTORY. F*** LAS VEGAS…STAGE ALL EVENTS IN CANADA.

I just got done watching the HD PPV on Cox.

I used to have DirecTV and never really purchased the HD UFC’s before so this was a first. Only $44.95 for the HD PPV on Cox! That was nice since it’s $54.95 on DirecTV for the HD one!

But the STEREO sound broadcast was horrible. My 7.1 setup is capable of so much more. Even with my $1,000 receiver trying to matrix it to 7.1 it sounded absolutely horrible. But it looked great!

I agree the fight card wasn’t that great. The Kalib Starnes & Nate Quarry fight was a complete joke. What a disgrace Starnes was to his home country.

Highlight of the night was, as everyone expected, GSP’s beatdown of Serra. But it was so dominating that it didn’t seem to justify the ppv price. I think I’ll go back to watching the ppv broadcasts online within 12 hours of it’s live showing. That or I’ll start going out to Hooters or a local bar to watch it live for free. I consider this ppv a waste of money.

I can’t wait for UFC 84 though. Sherk / Penn will be amazing.

I know. Bisping is not Anderson Silva.

But let’s look at facts.

1. He has never looked that good standing up.
2. He admittedly was in trouble on the ground.
3. He is huge at 185 lbs.
4. Up until now, I thought Bisping was crap

Charles McCarthy is crap. But give Bisping another couple fights and he could compete with Silva. Great submission defence, and on the feet?….Great Matchup looming….

O.K. guys I really don’t feel like a stupid war with stupid people, but some fans need to learn from the fighters, bottom line is they have  both  won 1. GSP was the better man tonight, don’t forget guys Serra never said anything but good stuff about GSP until he degraded him in the press by saying if that had been Hughs I would have canceled the fight, but it was Serra. So GSP threw the first classy shot.

Cavediver – I may have to agree with you.  Danzig showed great heart.  I can’t see him up against the top dogs in the division yet, but given more experience and more diversity, who knows.  Great fight.  The GSP vs. Serra fight is right up there too.  Not a head-banging fight, but certainly an excellent strategy-fest, which are my favorite anyway.

the boss – GSP is still young.  Can’t fault him for honesty, though he could have kept his thoughts to himself.  Serra took it as disrespect, and so the dance goes.  They kissed and made up tonight, so I don’t see why you’re still griping about it if they aren’t.

Danzig has great potential for the division, he does have a ways to go yet. This was definately his intro to the Big Leagues. And Mad Props to Bocek what a warrior spirit that guy is.
GSP’s fight and Danzig’s were the fights of the night for sure…….GSP IS THE BEST P4P.
I wished I had seen Damien Maia and Ed Herman’s fight. What I seen looked nasty for Ed.

MMACrossfire, The Herman fight was 20 seconds longer than the filler they threw in there (Goulet fight)….they had time……I think they just want the fight bought from the web site……you would think after a main card that truely did not live up to expectations, they could have at least showed the best fight of the night.

slowly but surely the PPV money will dry up, Dana…….

Props to GSP for regaining what was rightfully his
