Jacory Harris Plays with Thumb Injury for Several Weeks
There is a reason the play of Miami QB Jacory Harris tailed off late in the season , because he was hurt. Jacory Harris, after the first four games of the season, was looking very much like a player who had tossed a surprising hat into the Heisman mix. However, the middle part of the season came and went, and so did any Heisman talk for the talented sophomore.
Then came the latter portion of the season, when Harris’ performance really tailed off. As it turns out, there could’ve been a very good reason for the late-season swoon.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Harris suffered a ruptured ligament in his thumb and had “been playing with the injury for multiple weeks.” It’s believed the injury occurred during the Duke game on Nov. 21, a 34-13 win in which Harris threw for 348 yards.
The source would not divulge whether the thumb in question was attached to Harris’ throwing hand. Harris’ injury situation could be addressed as early tomorrow by head coach Randy Shannon in a press conference.
The medical line of thinking right now is that the injury would not preclude the quarterback from participating in spring practice, but that’s far from a certainty. It’s also unclear whether surgery will be necessary to repair the damage.
An email sent to the university seeking comment on Harris’ injury situation has not yet yielded an on-the-record comment.
